Hilda Vega, MD

Dr. Hilda E. Vega Vazquez serves as the Medical Director at SAAFE Behavioral Services.  Before becoming a psychiatrist, Dr. Vega did full training in Pediatrics at San Juan City Municipal Hospital. She practiced as a pediatrician working for the under privileged population at San Juan City Health System where she worked for five years before moving to Florida. Once in Florida, she decided to train in psychiatry and went to Syracuse University Psychiatry training program where she did adult psychiatry.

However, driven by her passion of working with younger patients, Dr. Vega went on to pursue a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial University Hospital. During her fellowship, she received specialized training in the assessment and management of mental health conditions specific to children and adolescents, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders. She then became board certified in general psychiatry.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Vega is deeply committed to giving back to the country that has welcomed her and her family. She has dedicated many years to working with veterans, providing psychiatric care and support to those who have served in our military. She has wide-ranging experience and special interest in working with children, adolescent, and families.

Furthermore, Dr. Vega is actively involved in supervising and teaching nurse practitioners at Saafe Behavioral Health Services. Her leadership role allows her to share her expertise and mentor the next generation of healthcare professionals.

She is bilingual with Spanish as her first language; fluent in English as her second language. Dr. Vega attributes her success as a doctor to her pleasurable and compassionate qualities that summarize who she is as a person and a doctor. Outside of her professional pursuits, she enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new cuisines, and staying active. She is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and advocating for the needs of children, adolescents, and adults in her community.
